Medicare in Florida

Florida is home to one of the largest Medicare populations in the country — which means more plan options, more benefits, and sometimes, more confusion. This guide explains how Medicare works in Florida, what coverage choices are available, and how to find the right plan for your needs.

Medigap Plans in Florida

Florida uses issue-age rating for Medigap premiums — meaning your premium is based on your age when you first enrol and won’t increase due to age later (though premiums can still go up over time due to inflation or company pricing changes).

Most popular Medigap plans:

  • Plan G — broadest coverage (excludes the Part B deductible)
  • Plan N — lower monthly premium, with some cost-sharing (copays, no excess-charge coverage)
  • Plan F — only for those eligible before Jan 1, 2020

Key facts about Medicare Supplements in Florida

  • Works with any doctor or hospital that accepts Medicare
  • Doesn't include drug, dental, or vision coverage
  • Requires a separate Part D plan for prescriptions
Note: Medigap cannot be combined with Medicare Advantage.

Part D in Florida: Drug Plans

If you choose Original Medicare or Medigap, you'll need a standalone Part D plan to cover prescriptions.

  • Plans vary by ZIP code and formulary
  • Deductibles can go up to $615 in 2026
  • Most plans are tiered (generic drugs cost less than brand-name)
  • The $2,100 annual out-of-pocket cap limits what you can spend on covered drugs
